The next British Science Week is coming up, and the theme is extra special – it really puts you in the driver’s seat! The theme for 2026 is ‘Curiosity: what’s your question?’.
This theme is all about getting you thinking about what you most want to know about the world, and how you could find out. We can’t wait to hear your questions, and the see the activities and events you plan around them.
Curiosity is at the heart of science
All scientific discoveries and advancements have come from a spark of curiosity. No experiment was conducted without a someone behind it being inquisitive, wanting to know the answer.
But curiosity isn’t just about conventional science, it’s part of our everyday lives, it’s how we understand and interact with our environment.
It can help us make the world a better place. Curiosity about the climate crisis and how we can protect our planet can lead us to make more eco-friendly choices. Curiosity about how technology works can help us be mindful about how we use it. Curiosity about health and medicine makes us more informed about our bodies.
This theme is also a brilliant opportunity to highlight people in STEM who demonstrated curiosity and it lead them to world-changing innovations.
Children are innately scientists
For children, curiosity is in abundance. They’re making new discoveries every day, every moment – encouraging this fascination with the world is vital and there are myriad ways to do it.
Getting them thinking about questions they’d love to explore the answers to, and how to do it, is what British Science Week 2026 is all about.
Any area of interest we have has a STEM element; sport, food & cooking, animals, history, video games, health & beauty, the environment, car racing, anything you can think of!
Relating subjects to children’s lives and their personal experiences is a great starting point for finding their question.
